(Even When You Don’t Feel Like the Perfect Christian)
Most mornings in our house start before the sun even thinks about showing up. Someone’s hungry. Someone can’t find a shoe. The coffee’s cold before I ever get to finish a cup. There are days I swear I can hear every clock ticking, every door shutting, every thought buzzing in my head all at once.
Motherhood is loud.
And not just in noise. It’s loud in decisions, in guilt, in to-do lists, in emotions you don’t even have words for.
There was a time I thought I had to find quiet to hear from God. That if the kids weren’t still and the house wasn’t spotless, then I couldn’t possibly connect with Him. But motherhood taught me something different. God doesn’t wait for silence. He speaks right through the chaos.
Sometimes His Word sounds like a verse that floats back into my mind while I’m scrubbing dishes. Sometimes it’s a lyric from a worship song playing over the hum of the dryer. And sometimes it’s just a whisper in my heart reminding me, “I’m still here.”
I’m Not the Perfect Christian (and That’s Exactly Why I Need Him)
I don’t believe in God because I’m supposed to.
I believe in God because of what He’s done in my life.
That’s not a polished Sunday answer. It’s the truth.
Because I’ve never felt like the perfect Christian. I still stumble over my words when I pray. I forget to open my Bible some days. And there are times I question if I even fit that title at all.
But I’ve always had this deep soul connection to Christ. God was the only Father figure I had growing up, so He became the One I could lean on, cry to, and talk to about everything. He’s the One who listened when no one else did.
I’ve seen His hand guiding my life in quiet ways. In moments that didn’t make sense at the time. In prayers that took years to be answered. In the people He placed in my path who prayed for me before I ever realized I needed it.
Looking back, I can see how He lined up every detail. Every heartbreak, every delay, every small miracle. He gave me exactly what I needed to become who I am today.
The Friday Prayer
There was a season when I was tired of guessing what God wanted for me. I had been praying for clarity, but life felt like a fog. One night, I finally told Him, “Lord, if You really have someone for me, please let me meet him by Friday.”
It was Monday.
And I wasn’t sure if that was faith or desperation speaking.
By Friday, I met my husband standing outside a little local restaurant. It wasn’t fancy. It wasn’t dramatic. It was just real. But at that moment, I knew it wasn’t a coincidence. It was a promise answered in His perfect timing.
That prayer became a turning point for me. It reminded me that God doesn’t always move in grand gestures. Sometimes He shows up in quiet corners of small towns, in ordinary days, with extraordinary love.
And every time I start to doubt, I think back to that prayer. It’s my reminder that God hears me, even when my faith feels small.
The Living Word in the Everyday
I used to think time with God had to look a certain way. A quiet room, a hot cup of coffee, an open Bible, and a heart perfectly ready to receive. But life with kids doesn’t usually look like that. Most days, quiet time feels like a luxury, not a routine.
Some mornings, Scripture sounds more like background music than a focused study. Other times, it’s a verse that flashes through my mind right when I need it most. Over the years, I’ve learned that the Living Word really is alive — it moves with me through my day.
If I can’t sit down and read, I listen to the Bible app while doing dishes.
If I’m feeling empty, I write a verse on a sticky note and put it on the bathroom mirror.
If the boys are restless, we start homeschool with a short verse and talk about what it means in real life.
If I can’t find words to pray, I play worship music while I fold laundry and let the lyrics speak for me.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be present.
God never asked us for flawless devotion. He asked us to stay close. To keep His Word near our hearts, even when our hands are full.
Some days that looks like a full journal page of prayers.
Other days it’s just a whispered “help me, Lord.”
Both are holy.
When You Can’t Hear Him but Still Need Him
There are days when the silence feels heavy.
When you pray and nothing seems to change.
When the Bible feels more like words on a page than breath to your spirit.
I’ve had those days too.
There are times I’ve cried out and wondered if God was listening at all. But even when I can’t hear Him, I’ve learned He’s still near. His presence isn’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes it’s quiet, steady, and waiting for us to pause long enough to notice.
The truth is, we don’t always feel faith. Some days we just choose it.
It’s choosing to believe that He’s working behind the scenes.
It’s trusting that He’s not disappointed in our doubt.
It’s remembering that His love doesn’t shrink when our energy does.
If you’re in a season where you feel disconnected from God, please know this — He’s not waiting for you to fix yourself. He’s waiting for you to come sit with Him, right where you are. Messy hair, heavy heart, half-folded laundry and all.
He doesn’t need you to perform. He just wants you to be present.
And even when your words won’t come, He still understands the language of your tears.
Anchor Tools for the Soul
When life feels loud, I’ve learned to reach for what keeps me anchored. Sometimes that’s Scripture, sometimes it’s prayer, and sometimes it’s something simple that points me back to God’s presence in the middle of it all.
That’s why I created The Battle Plan — a simple guide filled with verses and prayers that help you fight back when life feels heavy. It’s not about having perfect faith. It’s about learning how to pick up your spiritual weapons again when you’ve been too tired to try.
I also started writing Daily Whispers, my devotional for weary world-changers. It’s being built one day at a time, just like us. Each entry is short enough to read before the kids wake up but powerful enough to help you start your day with purpose. You can think of it as a quiet reminder that God is still moving, even in the mess.
You can also surround yourself with faith in small ways that make a big difference:
- Keep a journaling Bible on your nightstand and highlight verses that speak to you.
- Listen to worship playlists in the car or while you cook dinner.
- Leave Scripture cards around your home where you’ll see them often.
- Start a prayer journal and write one line a day, even if that line is just “Thank You.”
These small anchors remind us that God doesn’t live in the quiet moments alone. He lives in the middle of our chaos too.
Revival in the Noise
The world is loud.
Motherhood is louder.
But the Word of God still cuts through it all.
You don’t have to be the perfect Christian, the perfectly organized mom, or the one who never misses a morning devotion. You just have to be willing. Willing to listen. Willing to lean in. Willing to believe that even now, God is speaking into your story.
Because He is.
Through the laughter, the mess, the tears, and the long nights, His voice still whispers your name.
You are not too busy to hear Him.
You are not too far gone to feel Him.
And you are never too imperfect to be loved by Him.
Let His Word be the steady rhythm in your noise.
Let His promises be the melody that carries you through your days.
And let your home, your heart, and your motherhood become living proof that His Word is still alive — right here, right now.
