Most mornings, I don’t wake up to quiet.
I wake up to movement. To feet on the floor. To someone calling my name before I’ve even fully opened my eyes. For a long time, I thought this meant I was already behind. Behind on prayer. Behind on God. Behind on doing mornings “the right way.”
I used to believe that if my morning with God wasn’t calm and uninterrupted, then it didn’t count.
That belief kept me stuck for years.
What changed everything was realizing that God was not waiting for my house to be quiet. He was waiting for me to invite Him into what already was.
I stopped chasing the perfect morning and started choosing presence instead.
Now, my mornings follow a simple rhythm, not a rigid routine. I don’t aim for long. I aim for intentional.
I begin by grounding myself before I give my attention away. Sometimes that means opening my Bible app while the coffee brews. Sometimes it’s pulling a short prayer and sitting with it while the house hums around me. Other mornings, I let Scripture play out loud and follow along while I get breakfast started.
What matters most is not how long I stay there. It’s that I start there.
I no longer wait until I feel ready. I begin while I’m tired. While my mind is full. While the day is already asking something of me. That small act of beginning changes everything about how the rest of the morning unfolds.
Some days are interrupted. Some days feel rushed. Some days I barely finish a sentence before someone needs me. And yet, those moments still count.
God honors intention over perfection.
If you’re a mom who feels like you’re failing at quiet time, let this be your permission slip. You don’t need an hour. You don’t need silence. You don’t need a spotless house or a perfectly focused mind.
You need a starting point.
Begin before the scroll.
Begin before the rush.
Begin before the guilt sets in.
Invite God into the middle of your morning instead of waiting for the edges to clear.
That’s how I start my day with Him in a full house. Not flawlessly, but faithfully. And that has been enough.
